LL.M. in Taxation
Students who complete the 24-credit New York Law School Graduate Tax Program earn their LL.M. in Taxation, a post-graduate degree. They also master tax law and build relevant practice skills needed to best serve their clients and communities.
For more information about taking courses as a non-matriculant, please contact the Graduate Tax Associate Director.
Students have the opportunity to shape their studies in a way that fulfills their professional goals. The Program serves those engaged in every aspect of tax practice and every stage of career development—from established tax professionals seeking to broaden their knowledge of the field to business executives, real estate specialists, financial product designers and advisors, recent law school graduates, and others. Some students pursue their graduate tax studies full-time, but most study part-time while working for major corporations, banks, insurance companies, other financial institutions, or elsewhere.
Curriculum and Requirements
All students complete a rigorous core curriculum and choose an area of concentration. The core curriculum provides a solid foundation in the fundamentals of substantive tax law and basic tax research and writing skills, while keeping the highest standards of professional responsibility in focus. A wide range of elective courses allows each student to fully prepare for a capstone research and writing seminar in the student’s selected area of concentration. Capstone seminars provide an opportunity to tackle sophisticated problems at the forefront of current tax practice under the guidance of practicing lawyers who are leaders in the field.
