This course examines the relationship between the landlord and the tenant.

Landlord and Tenant Law

This course studies all aspects of the landlord and tenant relationship, emphasizing such state and city laws as Real Property Actions and Proceedings Law, Rent Control Law, Rent Stabilization Law, and the Emergency Tenant Protection Act. It considers nonpayment of rent and hold-over proceedings, and defenses such as the breach of warranty of habitability, stay of proceedings under Section 755 R.P.A.P.L., objectionable tenancy, and retaliatory eviction.

This upper-level substantive course examines the relationship between the landlord and the tenant.  New York State and Local laws are the primary focus. Materials from this course are tested on the New York Law Exam (NYLE).
