Climate change-driven disasters like the massive wildfires in Australia of 2019–20 have already killed and devasted billions of animals and vast ecosystems. Yet this largely remains beyond the purview of ethics and law. As the wreckage of the more-than-human world intensifies, there is a growing movement to develop norms, laws, and institutions capable of protecting other earth beings and holding accountable those responsible for their destruction.

Danielle Celermajer, Professor of Sociology and Criminology at the University of Sydney and author of Summertime: Reflections on a Vanishing Future, will explore omnicide (the killing of all) and discuss the challenges of transforming concepts and practices of responsibility to include those responsible and the harms suffered by their victims.
