J.D.
Build a strong foundation for a rewarding legal career with NYLS’s 86-credit J.D. Program. Our program systematically integrates perspectives on theory and practice, giving graduates the practical skills to help them thrive.
You’ll learn from New York City’s top legal professionals. Our accomplished full-time faculty and instructional staff teach all required courses and many elective courses. NYLS also draws on the city’s talented legal community for its adjunct faculty—many practicing attorneys, judges, and public officials teach elective courses each year in their field of expertise.
Students may choose from two primary course sequences: the three-year, full-time Day Division and the four-year, part-time Evening Division. NYLS also offers joint-degree programs, in conjunction with other educational institutions. Explore these and other pathways for J.D. applicants.

Through NYLS’s Think BIG curriculum, students choose one of three in-demand legal pathways: Business and financial services; Intellectual Property, Media, and Technology; and Government and public interest law.
