The campaign originated from global public outrage after a 1999 Italian Supreme Court ruling overturned a rape conviction because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans she must have helped the person who raped her remove them, thereby implying consent.
Nelsy Rodriguez, the Senior Violence Prevention Specialist at Wyckoff Hospital’s Violence Intervention and Treatment Program, will be available to discuss issues surrounding the prevention of sexual assault, the significance of Denim Day, and to provide information on the hospital’s survivor advocacy volunteer program in the Wyckoff Hospital Emergency Room.
Wear denim in solidarity. Stop by to say hello, to help counter victim blaming and misconceptions about sexual assault, and to learn strategies to keep our communities safe.
