While our daily headlines buzz with the latest breakthroughs, risks, concerns, and speculations surrounding Generative AI and its potential impact on the legal profession and our legal system, this class will cut through some of the cacophony with a practical focus on basic GenAI literacy for law students, the new skill of “prompt engineering” in the context of lawyering tasks, and a brief survey of cases in which lawyers, pro se litigants, one persistent law firm, and one expert witness have run into trouble by using GenAI tools irresponsibly.
