Cherie N. McPherson joined New York Law School’s Office of Academic Success and Bar Initiative team in 2023. She brings a host of experience as an academic support educator who has taught legal education courses from pre-orientation stage to post-graduate bar preparation stage. Her work as an academic support educator is largely focused on helping students succeed in law school by developing and implementing courses and workshops designed to sharpen students’ legal analytical skills, enhance students’ academic experience, and increase students’ overall preparedness for the bar examination as well as real-world practice.

Prior to joining NYLS, Dean McPherson served as a member of Brooklyn Law School’s Academic Support Program as an Assistant Professor of Academic Success (2021–2023), Adjunct Professor (2019–2021), and Small Group Instructor (2019).

Previously, Dean McPherson served as an Assistant Corporation Counsel for the New York City Office of the Corporation Counsel where she was assigned to the Special Federal Litigation Division (2015–2018) and Family Court Division (2018–2021). As a member of the Special Federal Litigation Division, Dean McPherson represented the City of New York and its employees and agencies in federal Section 1983 actions. As a member of the Family Court Division, Dean McPherson represented the City of New York in juvenile delinquency proceedings. She also served as a fellow for the New York City Police Department.
